Tea stained graphic tee experiment

13 05 2010

I didn’t have tees made up for the art walk in time, so Ally suggested I try a printable transfer using my inkjet printer. I had some old stock in my studio, and this quick video shows my results…

Fleur de Eyeball

The tee was old with some slight rust staining. I tea stained it after the transfer using a citrus tea blend and darjeeling, resulting in a purplish hue. To avoid staining the area around the eye graphic, I used rubber bands to section off the transfer area and dipped that section in vinegar water to set it. I then dipped the bottom of the shirt into the tea solution, avoiding the graphic area, and let the tea soak into the fabric without submersing the whole thing.

The Way We Are and Art Walk

12 05 2010

I started this blog to share experiences from my lifelong spiritual and metaphysical studies, a product of my desire to share the growing mound of evidence chronicling the serendipitous events of my life, some of which seem astounding by rational means. Experiences of wonder and awe, of delight and surprise at the joyfully occurring coincidences of my life, are plentiful and generally laugh-out-loud funny. I plan to share more as time flows on.

In Torquay or Toray, I revealed a side of me that is much more comfortable in silence. I enjoy this side of my life, but lately I feel compelled to share my experiences, even as I’m not entirely comfortable talking about them. I’ve been applying a new habit of persistence to facing my fears: to feel that sense of timidity and move forward anyway, trusting that I know my course despite not knowing the precise outcome.

In listening to my mentors talk of the path of the mystical human, I have embraced my own inner seeress and her Jedi-like abilities. In sharing my story with you, I reveal her story and am no longer a silent witness to this rich inner life. This is the way of the multisensory human… not different from others but the same, understanding the sacred and unending connectedness between us all. All is one, we are part of a larger system of physical and spiritual reality.

In my graphic design business, I often speak of “we” in consideration of the many people who contribute to my work. I see myself as part of a design community— a living, thriving system in which there are more than enough projects to go around. As a freelance artist, there have been times that I couldn’t get the job done, and I’d refer my client to another talented designer in the spirit of what goes around, comes around. We’re all part of a community of artists, and we’re all consumers, citizens, taxpayers and loved ones. When I thrive, you thrive and vice versa.

Life is good. We’re all in it together.

This Friday, I’ll be participating in my first public event as a displaying artist, showing paintings and studies I’ve created over the past year or so. My work will be displayed at the Battle Creek Downtown Partnership offices, my former workplace and BC’s former Ratti Uniform Shop.

I am pleased.

Join us if you can. The more, the merrier!

Spring Into The Arts – Downtown Battle Creek

5-9 pm, live music on Michigan Avenue, 30 locations and dozens of artists in the downtown area. I’ll be chilling at 115 W. Michigan, right next door to Arcadia Brewing Company. (Facebook page for Spring Into The Arts here.)

Pyramids, giants and an ancient global civilization?

5 05 2010

Project Camelot has a mind expanding video of Klaus Dona, Austrian artifacts researcher,  covering pyramids, glyphs, and ancient artifacts showing evidence of an ancient global civilization. Includes underwater photos of a giant temple/city near Japan and many bizarre relics from South America. The quality of the video is not great, but I really enjoyed seeing sculptures, drawings, skeletons and skulls of giants and other unknown humanoids.

I’m really into giants right now, found this in perfect serendipity. Great imagery for paintings.

Watersphere finding me

2 04 2010

I’ve been fascinated with the properties of water lately, especially since discovering a grand trine in my natal astrology chart a few months ago. Masuro Emoto’s work shows the effects of intention on water via images of the way the water crystallizes when frozen after treatment: beautiful words yield pretty crystals, ugly words forge a messy blob.

And the moon. The moon affects the tides and our bodies. We’re more energized when the moon is full, tired and cranky when it’s dark or waning. Fishermen and farmers know the balance of this, those working with the earth and creatures.

And water is tied to emotion. Rivers of tears flow when grief is heavy or anger goes unexpressed. Tears cleanse out toxins in the body and release them… after all, toxins are energetically bound by our lower and fear-based thoughts. This week, I discovered that writing helped me to release through tears quickly, that in writing out my grief I quickly acknowledged and released the pain of memory. The tears did not stay for long.

I breathe in a sigh of relief.

Inspiring, the longer days and warming weather. Wonder if I can take my easel outdoors without the wind knocking it over?

From the edge of the Milky Way to the center of a molecule, enjoy this journey across space and into the DNA strands of a leaf in Florida, courtesy of the Molecular Expressions website.

Molecular Expressions offers a portfolio of photos containing thousands of full color photomicrographs, including some very colorful images of a variety of phytochemicals, the medicinal constituents of plants. The photo above is  of the phytochemical Heliotropin, a derivitive of sassafrass with aromatic healing qualities and a brilliant image by Molecular Expressions.

“The Molecular Expressions website features  acclaimed photo galleries and one of the largest collections of color photographs taken through an optical microscope (commonly referred to as “photo-micro-graphs”). Visit our Photo Gallery for an introductory selection of images covering just about everything from beer and ice cream to integrated circuits and ceramic superconductors.
